This wasnt our first time buying, but the market was so much hotter than last time, and we had never sold a home. We felt cared for from the first meeting we had with John all the way through and after closing on both homes.John was available, honest, clear, proactive, and patient. He sat with us through the tough decisions and balanced the line perfectly of telling us what he thought good choices were when making offers and responding to counter-offers, with making sure we had space as a couple to feel clear on each decision. He was there when we had to make quick decisions and big choices but we never felt pressured or rushed into anything.We were very pleased with how smoothly listing, getting offers, closing, putting offers on new homes, and closing on our new home went. With one of the homes we had to use the other partys escrow agent. They were poorer than the one the Selby team recommended for our sale, but the Selby team staff stayed on top of it, creating docusigns out of things the old-school escrow company wanted us to print, sign, and return. Little things like that made the whole process easier and let us know the Selby Team was supporting us completely. Oh, and John and Ryan were great with our kids, even when they needed to help distract the 5yo so we could focus on a showing or inspection! :) You cant go wrong by choosing John Selby as your realtor.

Comment: We are moving from the Bay Area to San Diego and John was referred to us by friends. He was prompt, friendly, and exceptionally accommodating. He sent us a link to a collaboration center where we could say yes, no, or maybe to listings as we looked around online, and when we saw a house that we thought was “the one” decided to fly down last minute (decided on a Thursday to come in on Saturday) John was happy to show us the houses we liked. He was knowledgeable about the area of San Diego that we were looking at and gave us a good idea of what to expect in the current market. Comment: I met John several years back by renting out his Airbnb unit while my house was being constructed. Fast forward a few years and my husband and I were ready to buy our first investment property. This was a new endeavor for us and we had a lot of emotions wrapped up into this transaction, but John made it fast and easy. My husband and I were interested in getting the best return on our investment, specifically in terms of cash flow, equity, and principal pay down. While we did our homework on the properties we wanted to see, John and Joanie always made themselves available for the showings (e.g. mornings, evenings, weekends, etc.). It is worth mentioning that there were a lot of pain points in our search, as my husband and I wrapped our heads around how much rehab (or lack thereof) we were willing to take on. John always facilitated the showings with a good “You can do anything!” attitude that served as a constant surge of positive reinforcement. We purchased our first property through John in June 2017 and it was about as easy as they come. The property had previously flooded and we were concerned about the extent of damage behind the drywall. John negotiated special terms in our offer letter that would allow us to cut a hole in the drywall to assess the damage during the inspection (genius idea?). Fortunately, there was no hidden damage and we could sleep easy at night knowing John had helped us take preventive measures to ensure the extent of the damage was limited to the exterior.In July 2018, the success of our first property led us to start looking for another investment. John swept in as flawlessly as he did with our first transaction, and within the first 30 days of looking we were under contract on a 3-unit complex in North Park. This transaction was difficult from the beginning. The seller’s agent was fighting tooth and nail on every penny and the pesky tenants were not making the showings easy on any party. Regardless of all this noise, John stayed professional through the entire process and was determined to get us the best deal we could. John’s greatest skills truly shined at the negotiation table. His professionalism and expertise allowed us to get under contract in a property that appraised for $45K more than what we offered (instant equity!). He identified strategic terms for us that ultimately led to the winning offer. While this transaction was not easy, and did come with a few headaches, it was an absolute pleasure having John by our side the entire time. John is not “our agent”, he is “our friend” and our “teammate”. While he works for us, he works with us and is a tremendous part of our real estate success. We look forward to continued business with John and recommend him to our friends and family.
